Strambach Calabash Pipe – Meerschaum Lined

Large-size pipe made from cured African gourd, featuring an inner meerschaum lining that protects the natural material from heat during smoking.

Thanks to the expansion chamber located beneath the bowl, the smoke travels a longer path before reaching the mouthpiece. This design results in a cooler and drier smoke, with reduced moisture and a smoother smoking experience. Contact with the natural gourd walls further enhances this effect.

Each Strambach pipe is individually handmade, making every piece unique.

The origins of the workshop date back to 1904, when Edmund Jolitschke began producing mouthpieces and later meerschaum pipes. In 1922, Robert Strambach expanded the production to include Calabash pipes and developed his own methods for working both natural and pressed meerschaum.

For many years, Strambach produced meerschaum pipes for other European makers before focusing on pipes sold under its own name. Since 1974, under the direction of Edith Corrieri, the company has been dedicated to the manufacture of fine, handcrafted pipes bearing the Strambach name.

The Calabash shape, closely associated with the iconic image of Sherlock Holmes, remains one of the brand’s most distinctive features.

In 1981, the Strambach workshop was awarded the Austrian State Coat of Arms, recognizing its long-standing expertise in meerschaum pipe making.
