The Jeantet firm, originating in Saint-Claude, is documented as early as 1775, placing it among the oldest historic names in French pipe making. After an initial period focused on wood turning and wooden pipes, it began the manufacture of briar pipes in 1858, developing into a major industrial producer.
By the late 19th century, production was consolidated in a large factory on Rue de Bonneville, reaching its peak output in the late 1960s. After decades of industrial activity, the company was integrated into the Chapuis-Comoy environment in 1988, after which the historic Saint-Claude factory was closed.
