Peterson, the Irish pipe manufacturer, has a rich history dating back to its foundation in 1865 by Charles Peterson in Dublin. The brand stood out for its innovation, notably known for the patented System Standard in 1890, which enhanced the smoking experience. The quality and distinctive design of Peterson pipes contributed to its worldwide recognition.
Over the years, Peterson has undergone various phases of ownership but has maintained its commitment to traditional craftsmanship and excellence in pipe manufacturing. In the 1890s, Charles Peterson applied for and obtained several patents related to his innovative mouthpieces and pipes, such as the P-Lip patented in 1898.
Throughout the 20th century, the company experienced significant changes, from the turbulence of World War I to the merger with Tennant and Ruttle in the 1970s, followed by a new independence under the historical name of Kapp & Peterson.
The 1980s witnessed the launch of notable limited editions, such as the commemorative Mark Twain pipes and the Sherlock Holmes series, which became some of Peterson's most famous and sought-after offerings.
In the 1990s, Tom Palmer acquired the company and has led the expansion of the modern pipe range while maintaining a focus on tradition and quality. Peterson continues to be a respected brand in the world of pipes, offering variety and novelty to pipe smokers each year through their annual releases.
